Bio
A 55-year Journey
MALISS (Sonyha Rodriguez-Miller) is back making music professionally after a hiatus of nearly 50 years. In 1978 she left her native Puerto Rico and settled in Florida to focus on family and a new career. Fast forward to 2025 when, encouraged by her husband, she began to write and produce music. Her debut release, Golden Horses, is the first of several chill, groovy instrumental tracks coming out in the coming months.
She began her professional music career in 1971 and was well known for her distinctive alto voice accompanied by her guitar. Signed to a recording contract with Borinquen Records right off the bat, she continued to build a following, performing at the premier hotels in San Juan — the Hyatt La Concha, the Caribe Hilton and the Americana Hotel, where she did a year-long stint with the Oscar Galende Quintet. At the same time she regularly appeared on top television variety shows such as El Show de las 12, Sabado Gigante, El Show de Luis Vigoreax, El Show de Iris Chacon and many more. She performed often in the Dominican Republic and took part in a song festival held in Trujillo, Peru. One of her most cherished memories is that of the great Chita Rivera leading a standing ovation after one of her performances at the storied Ocho Puertas in San Juan.
Maliss's musical taste runs the entire gamut. Presently, she is writing in both English and Spanish and plans to release vocal interpretations of her original work as well as classic covers. Stay tuned and sign onto the mailing list so you don't miss these.
